South Jersey Gas Former Pleasantville MGP: Weekly Project Update – Week of 5/13/19

In April 2018, South Jersey Gas (SJG) mobilized for the current phase of remediation at the Pleasantville former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Site in Pleasantville, New Jersey. The Site is located at the intersection of North Franklin Boulevard and Old Turnpike. It is anticipated that activities will take approximately 14 months to complete.

 Anticipated Work to be performed: May 13-17

Site Activity

  • Continue preparing Stage 3 for excavation.
  • Begin installing sanitary sewer line.
  • Continue backfilling Stage 2.
  • Operated wastewater treatment plant.
  • As necessary, continue efforts to mitigate odors naturally associated with MGP materials, including foaming, maintaining fixed perimeter odor-neutralizing granule system, and conducting daily odor assessment patrols.
  • As necessary, continue water misting to reduce dust.
  • Continue air monitoring at site perimeter.
  • Continue onsite security (weekdays: 4 p.m. – 7 a.m. and Sat/Sun: 24-hrs.).

Work performed: May 6-10

Site Activity

  • Continued ISS (in-situ stabilization, or the use of stabilization constituents to contain materials onsite) within Old Turnpike.
  • Backfilled Stage 1A.
  • Continued grading Stage 2.
  • Began backfilling Stage 2.
  • Relocate ISS rig to Stage 3.
  • Began preparing Stage 3 for excavation.
  • As necessary, continued efforts to mitigate odors naturally associated with MGP materials, including foaming, maintaining fixed perimeter odor-neutralizing granule system, and conducting daily odor assessment patrols.
  • As necessary, continued water misting to reduce dust.
