South Jersey Gas Former Pleasantville MGP: Weekly Project Update – Week of 7/29/19

Soil remediation will be completed at the Pleasantville former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Site at the intersection of North Franklin Boulevard and Old Turnpike in Pleasantville, New Jersey on or about the beginning of September of this year. Restoration of the public portions of the remediation site, including the roads impacted, will be completed on or about the end of October of this year.

Stage 1A: South of Old Turnpike, East of North Franklin, North of Grant

Stage 2: South of Old Turnpike, West of North Franklin, North of Grant

Stage 3: South Jersey Gas Property

Anticipated Work to be performed: July 29-August 2

Site Activity

  • Continue to remove gas metering station temporary fence and replace with permanent fencing.
  • Backfill Stage 2.
  • Backfill the alley excavation in Stage 3 next to the South Jersey Gas building.
  • Load out support columns utilized for ISS (in-situ stabilization, or the use of stabilization constituents to contain materials onsite).
  • Continue sanitary sewer installation.
  • Continue water utility restoration.
  • As necessary, continue efforts to mitigate odors naturally associated with MGP materials, including foaming, maintaining fixed perimeter odor-neutralizing granule system, and conducting daily odor assessment patrols.
  • As necessary, continue water misting to reduce dust.
  • Continue air monitoring at site perimeter.
  • Continue onsite security (weekdays: 4 p.m. – 7 a.m. and Sat/Sun: 24-hrs.).
