South Jersey Gas Former Pleasantville MGP: Weekly Project Update – Week of 9/9/19

Soil remediation will be completed at the Pleasantville former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) Site at the intersection of North Franklin Boulevard and Old Turnpike in Pleasantville, New Jersey on or about the beginning of September of this year. Restoration of the public portions of the remediation site, including the roads impacted, will be completed on or about the end of October of this year.

Note: As 2019 project remediation and restoration nears completion, some work on Saturdays could be required.

Locations of 2019 Project Stages

Stage 1A: South of Old Turnpike, East of North Franklin, North of Grant

Stage 1B: Northeast Corner of Old Turnpike and North Franklin

Stage 2: South of Old Turnpike, West of North Franklin, North of Grant

Stage 3: South Jersey Gas Property

Anticipated Work to be performed: September 9-13

Site Activity

  • Install water line in public right-of-way.
  • Begin breaking down equipment utilized for ISS (in-situ stabilization, or the use of stabilization constituents to contain materials onsite).
  • Load out soil for offsite treatment and beneficial reuse.
  • Continue grading Stage 3.
  • Begin backfilling Stage 3.
  • As necessary, continue efforts to mitigate odors naturally associated with MGP materials, including foaming, maintaining fixed perimeter odor-neutralizing granule system, and conducting daily odor assessment patrols.
  • As necessary, continue water misting to reduce dust.
  • Continue air monitoring at site perimeter.
  • Continue onsite security (weekdays: 4 p.m. – 7 a.m. and Sat/Sun: 24-hrs.).

Site Activity

  • No work was performed on Monday, September 2nd in observance of the holiday.
